About the Dis-Chem Cosmetics Learnership

The Retail Cosmetics Learnership gives participants the chance to develop essential retail and customer service skills. Learners will receive training in stock control, merchandising, promotions, and sales, while working directly with leading cosmetic and beauty brands. This programme is ideal for individuals who want to build a career in the retail sector with one of South Africa’s most respected pharmacy groups.

 

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered:

 

Matric / Grade 12 qualification

Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays

Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Advantageous Skills and Experience

Previous work experience in the beauty or cosmetics environment

Key Responsibilities

As a learner in this programme, your duties will include:

 

Stock Control

Ensuring all stock is fresh, undamaged, and within sell-by dates

Keeping shelves fully stocked and neatly presented

Participating in regular stock takes and reporting shortages or damages

Rotating stock according to company procedures

Maintaining a clean and organized storeroom

 

Merchandising

Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and product displays

Presenting merchandise in an attractive and customer-friendly way

Assisting with cosmetic demonstrations, makeovers, and promotions

Ensuring correct pricing and labeling of all items

Helping with stock loading and off-loading when needed

Customer Service

Assisting customers with friendly, professional advice

Processing payments at the Cosmetics Department tills

Handling customer queries promptly and effectively

Supporting sales targets by promoting products and providing product knowledge

Competencies Required

Candidates should demonstrate the following skills and abilities:

 

Strong communication (verbal and written)

Listening and interpersonal skills

Basic financial understanding

Trustworthiness and honesty

Customer service orientation

Ability to manage time and tasks independently

Conditions of Employment

South African citizenship

Clear criminal and credit record (MIE screening)

Ability to work retail and flexi-hours, including weekends and holidays

Remuneration and Benefits

Learners will receive a monthly stipend while completing the programme.
