Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ Soshanguve store has the option for a student attending a dispensary to join the team. The main objective is to recruit students who are able to take and complete the Basic Pharmacy Assistant course. This course will enable students to understand the underlying principles of all major fields related to the pharmaceutical and distribution environment and will promote the concept of quality in work. Staff will be employed in a temporary position as Dispensary Assistant until they register with SAPC as Basic Learning Assistants. Permanent employment will only be offered once qualified as a Basic Pharmacy Assistant.

Essential:
Grade 12 – Matrix or Higher Certificate with Mathematics (HG), Life Sciences and / or Physical Sciences and achieved at least 50% GPA

Clinic support staff must have passed an aptitude test authorizing them to register with the Board of Pharmacy (SAPC) as a Basic Learning Assistant.
A licensed pharmacist assistant in the category of novice pharmacist assistants; may perform the following services or acts under the direct personal supervision of a pharmacist in a pharmacy:
The sale of drugs listed in Schedule 1 or controlled substances.
To assist in the composition, handling or preparation of a non-sterile drug or programmed substance according to a formula and standard operating procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist.
Help unpack and market inventory and clean shelves in dispensaries and OTCs approved by the responsible pharmacist.
All other duties assigned by the dispensary administrator.
Learn how to accurately interpret scripts and act in a professional and responsible manner and within legal requirements according to the Pharmaceutical Council of South Africa.
Ensure correct selection, packaging, labeling and control of medications and be aware of common dosages and important drug interactions.
Make sure all medications are checked by a pharmacist for accuracy and approved by a pharmacist.
Help with stock control (manage the cleaning and organization of shelf packaging and drug expiration dates) of drugs or substances listed in appendices 1 to 5.
Follow up with patients regarding the scenario follow-up report as requested by the clinic manager and follow-up appointment.
Participate in call center scripts and patient care phone calls.
Provide information to people to promote health.
Assist in the authorization of the chronic drugs, HIV / AIDS and oncology program.
Report low / depleted stock levels and stock errors to the clinic manager.
Receive dispensary inventory in accordance with company defined SOPs.
